When Billy Tauzin stepped down as President & CEO of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), he set one of the key storylines of the summer. Just last week, PhRMA completed an efficient search for Tauzin’s successor, naming John Castellani as its next leader.
Castellani is a Washington insider and left his post at the Business Roundtable to assume PhRMA’s top job. He now faces an enormous challenge in rebuilding the reputation of the pharmaceutical industry with legislators, the public and the agencies that regulate product safety.
Burrill & Company recently published a podcast with Ian Spatz, former vice president of global health policy at Merck and founder of the Rock Creek Policy Group, in which he offers his advice to PhRMA’s new CEO, why repairing the industry’s reputation should be Castellani’s top priority, and why the industry remains unloved by the public at large.
